EXTENDED EDITION / M-VAVE FM-1

0.1.6-beta1 · Experimental release

Blocks, bridges
& your own hits.

Give your groove somewhere to go. Make an independent variation, stretch a section to 32 bars, and keep transposed bass notes inside your chosen scale.

The new browser companion helps find the hits you want in a WAV loop, then shape each slice into something you can play.

Device firmware + a separate browser companion. Read the known issues before installing.

ON THE FM-1

Turn a pattern into
an arrangement.

01

A bridge of its own.

Duplicate a block as a variation and edit its copied notes independently. Build a fill or a bridge while keeping your original pattern.

02

Let a section breathe.

Set each block to 1–32 musical bars. Queue a block for the next bar, or let the arrangement move through its rows and wrap.

03

Change the shape. Undo.

Delete a block without deleting its underlying patterns, sounds or motion. Structural Undo/Redo and a visible SONG UNDO action help you retrace an edit.

04

Transpose with a home key.

Scale adherence brings transposed 303 notes into the shared key and scale. Use the harmony controls to keep bass variations connected.

Example: an independent P3 variation between two P2 blocks. Durations are musical bars.

IN YOUR BROWSER

Find the snare.
Keep the character.

Start with a loop, a recorded kit or a little percussion of your own. Use a frequency band and a minimum level to find useful attacks, then listen and choose.

Listen & detect

Kick, snare and percussion presets; custom profiles; spectrum and filtered-energy displays. Hear the detection band and inspect coloured matches.

Choose & shape

Scroll through slices. Set Active, Length, Hold, Decay and Level for each hit. Shorten the tail before another percussion sound arrives.

Keep & reuse

Audition hits or play active slices. Copy/paste settings, save custom profiles and reopen review projects with the matching WAV.

Hold preserves the recorded signal before Decay fades it. The original WAV stays unchanged. A filter-guided detector helps select hits; it cannot remove instruments sounding at the same time.

THE EXTENDED FOUNDATION

Still a whole groovebox.

909 and 808 drums, two 303 bass voices, a break player, motion recording and effects — built on Charles Vestal's X0X and its component authors.

Extended Edition retains that foundation and adds 25 per-sound filter/limiter strips, explicitly applied reusable defaults, expanded lane timing, arrangement harmony and MIDI accompaniment/routing. The 909 strip batching improvement from 0.1.5 is included.

THE COMPARISON SHEET

What comes from where?

The earlier upstream-versus-Extended comparison, updated for this release. Upstream X0X means Charles Vestal's project, not M-VAVE factory firmware.

Baseline: upstream main 54194c5, reviewed 18 October 2026, with v1.1.0 release context. This is a pinned comparison, not a claim about future upstream changes. “Not established” means no equivalence was confirmed in that review.

PLAY, TEST, FEEDBACK

Ready for an experiment?

This is a prerelease. Bounded hardware arrangement, save/restart, playback and one-note scale/MIDI checks passed. A 32-bar block took about 64 seconds at 121 BPM. The browser snare workflow was accepted as a useful starting point.

Broader heavy-load, external MIDI timing and overnight testing remain open. The separate autosave fix is not included. Keep a pre-update project backup and sample WAVs separately; older firmware can reject the newer arrangement format.

Future ideas include weighted block selection, evolving probabilities, alternate synth engines and velocity-shaped slices. These are proposals, not features of 0.1.6.
