STUDIO PRECISION / FM-1 EXTENDED EDITION
Keep it straight.
Let the snare wander.
A clear rate list for the whole composition. A triplet exception for one sound. 0.1.32-straightbeta brings both to your FM-1.
WHERE THIS STARTED
When a rate sweep became a train wreck
The idea came from automating a rate parameter on a MIDI object. A smooth automation movement stepped through straight values, dotted divisions and triplets. The options were all useful, but moving between them made the rhythm feel clunky. The groove could turn into a kind of train wreck.
STRAIGHT mode grew out of that experience: keep the automation sweep on a deliberate list of straight values, then use a sound’s local override when you want triplets as a musical choice. A straight kick and a triplet snare can share the same composition.
Thirteen deliberate stops
Choose global STRAIGHT and sweep the rate knob without passing through dotted or triplet divisions.
1/161/81/41/21/12/13/14/16/18/112/116/132/1A different groove for one sound
Select the snare. In EDIT → STRIP SYNC, choose STR+TRIPLET. Set its sequence rate to 1/16T while the kick stays at 1/16. All parts share one BPM; their step rates can differ.
Keep the useful details
Project save/reload, Undo/Redo and a searchable 753-entry MIDI reference. The new global/local mode controls are panel settings; existing MIDI addresses stay documented with their exact scope.
Experimental beta
Bounded physical controls, listening and saved-restart checks passed on one unit. Advanced remote-action hardware checks, worst-case deadlines and Reason sync remain open. No alternate synth engines or additional drum voice banks are included.
